To play with SEO is not an easy task but is not difficult either to customize it in the proper way so that the rankings of your website goes up in the Google SERPs.

Rand Fishkin from Moz quoted it correctly,

In 2004, good SEO made you remarkable on the web. In 2014, good SEO is a result of being remarkable on the web.

People nowadays, do not have much time to search a diary for numbers or visit places to seek some information. Instead they just…

…Google it!

And, with that, comes your responsibility to spice up your SEO game in such a way that Google could trust you and therefore, rank you better in their SERPs.

Anyway, who likes to rank on the later pages when you can rank either 1st or at least maybe on the 1st page.

And, for that, you need to work a little hard on your website by working on these below-mentioned points…

1. Try to buy an old expired domain:

It’s important to build your network on an expired domain because an expired domain carries higher authority as compared to a brand new domain.
If your preferred domain names are still not available, then go for some new domain names but make sure it is not very complicated as people will find it difficult to remember the name so as to google about it in future.

Here are some of the advantages buying an expired domain:
1) Will have backlinks…
2) Will have a higher number of referring links
3) Will have a decent Domain Authority, Page Authority, Trust Flow & Citation Flow.
4) Will have an age on the domain which is very vital.

But do a quality check for that domain name, because finding a high quality expired domain is very difficult as you have to look hard, spend some time, and research to get the best ones. To read more about this in our another blog, click here.

2. Put relevant context on your website:

Make sure that when anyone visits your website, they understand it with ease. Because the domain name portrays the character of your website. Everything should be relevant to your niche.

Do not make your website a complete mess by using loads of meta tags. Instead, choose some relevant keywords and use it.
Also, do not forget to disclose about the quick links which include –
About us, Contact us, Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy etc.

Google trusts such websites which will be helpful to rank them better.

Just be transparent with your audience so that they do not feel cheated when they land on your website.

3. Publish content wisely:

If your website is about Holiday Destinations, make sure you only post articles related to your domain’s name and meaning.

I have seen many such websites with an attractive article name, but when you click it, it is completely related to something else. Just a Click Bait technique!

People will only love your content if it is related to the title and to the meaning of your website.

Stick to the originality of your website. If your audience sees something irrelevant, it drives them crazy.

4. Know where to use the Keywords:

Google ranks the websites which are are properly using their keywords.

In an article worth 2000 words, you should try to use your keyword wisely and do not overdo it. Nobody will like to read your specific keyword again and again in every paragraph that you write.

Make sure to use your keyword in these places at least –

Title – Your audience should know that what is your blog all about because none would want to read an article with a vague title.

I would not like to read about an article with a title Checkout your next Holiday Destination.
I would instead read something specific like 21 reasons why colombia should be your next holiday destination.

Google has a certain limit to show the title on the SERPs, so you cannot just keep writing as long as you want it to be.

Meta Description – Using the keyword in meta description will make your content more acceptable to Google. Make sure; you put it in the first 150 characters so that both, Google and your audience can read it properly.

Images – If you are inserting any image in your blog, you have to put in your keyword in the title of your image and in the alt text.

Why alt text? …

… Because Alt Text is meant to be an alternative information source for those people who have chosen to disable images in their browsers and those user agents that are simply unable to “see” the images. It should describe what the image is about and get those visitors interested to see it.

URL and Content – You can also include the keyword in the blog’s URL to make it easier for the SEO purpose. In short, an apt keyword specific URL will have a higher chance to rank on the top page.

And, as I mentioned above that your content should also involve your keywords so that it doesn’t seem vague to Google.

5. Insert valuable links in your post

You can include two types of links in your post –

Firstly, your own website’s link, i.e. include some of your previous posts in your current article to get some clicks on that blog.

And, Secondly, include other website’s links. If you do find some relevant links which are connecting with your blog, do not resist to link that website too. Google loves it when you don’t just think about yourself.

Also, people believe your website to be authentic and not some fake one who purchases certain fake links to add to the blog just to get higher rankings.

Never ever do that, or else, Google will penalise your website using their latest Penguin 4.0 and will deindex your website too.

6. Make sure people talk about you too:

When you insert another website’s link, try to tweet them or drop them an email, to have a check on your latest article in which you referred to one page of their website. They might love the blog and give you a backlink too!

This is one of the most important factors for Search Engine Optimisation. Because Google will highly trust your website if they see that you are getting referral links from other trusted websites.

It will know that if a reliable website links you back, it means that your website is reliable too.

Do not try to cheat Google by referring other websites that you own and getting back a referral from the same website that you own. It will only help you to get your domain name deindex in the eyes of G!

7. Your content size:

If you are writing blogs, try to wrap it with more than 1500-2000 words.

Why…?

… Because Google prefers to trust and rank those websites whose content is rich in words and context. It does not mean that you can post anything just to make sure that your word count exceeds 2000 words.

If your website contains more than 2000 relevant words, it is possible to get more backlinks redirecting to your page thus help you boost your SEO rankings.

People feel content is so valuable that they are willing to link to in-depth content more than they are willing to link to content that is short.

The general trend is that the percentage of people who are searching for 2 or 3-word phrases is decreasing and the percentage of people who are searching for 4, 5 or even 8-word phrases is increasing.

8. Layout and formatting:

Some Do’s and Don’ts that you should always keep in mind before publishing any article –

  1. Keep the font size and style very simple. It is easy for the audience to stay for a longer period on your website.
  2. Make sure to follow a simple pattern of writing instead of a clumsy one. Your audience should not have a question mark on their faces.
  3. Do not overplay with colors in your article. Strategize accordingly and use minimal colors as required.
  4. Use bullet points if you specifically want to highlight certain points.
  5. Make your article readable to your audience. Do not overdo it with irrelevant words.
  6. Do not include lengthy paragraphs. People will be bored reading all lengthy text para. Keep them short and try to include some media in it.

9. Mobile Friendly:

Nowadays, more people are consuming the content on their mobile phones as compared to any other devices. And, not have a mobile friendly website will affect your consumer conversion rate.

As of April 2015, Google released a significant new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm that’s designed to give a boost to mobile-friendly pages in Google’s mobile search results.

So it means that if your website is not mobile-friendly, then Google will drastically put you down in the SERPs.

This research also show the data of consumers preferring mobile over laptops. If you imagine that the mobile usage is merely a reflection of consumers logging onto social media, checking email or conducting a search, or shopping, think again.

Executives lead the way in mobile adoption, validating the theory that digital assets for business or brand must serve target audiences 24/7, and not just during business hours.

10. Social Media Shares:

People are more active on social media throughout the day so promoting your blog on all these platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram, etc. a unique visits on your website.

Apart from that, it also helps you for higher SEO rankings on Google.

Social Media usage also helps to increase one’s purchase behaviour. Nearly 4 in 10 Facebook users report that they have at some point gone from liking, sharing or commenting on an item to buying it.
43% of social media users have purchased a product after sharing or favoriting it on Pinterest, Facebook or Twitter.

If you like our article then do share it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or your beloved social media channel..
